I was born in 1951 in Melbourne and studied law at Melbourne University. I then worked as an employee for three years in a Coburg law firm and set up my own practice in the city in 1976.
I’ve always enjoyed criminal law and started specialising in 1976 at a time when this was not fashionable. I can clearly remember other lawyers not being willing to go to the jail as they regarded this as below them. “These kind of clients” were not the ones they wanted to encourage.
I quickly realised that it was not possible to handle every case as volume doesn’t mean quality . I pride myself on providing the best service and advice to clients.
Criminal law is not an area that lends itself to production line representation.
All clients see me and are not referred away to employee solicitors. My staff help me prepare law and analyze complex briefs however I deal with each and every client.
I’m one of the original lawyers who assisted the Law Institute of Victoria to set up the Accredited Specialist Panel and was involved in setting up the examinations and assessment guidelines for the overall scheme.
I have been a Criminal Law Accredited Specialist since the scheme commenced in 1996.
I am the holder of a Certificate of Service awarded by the Law Institute in recognition of a significant contribution to the Law Institute of Victoria and the Legal Profession.
Over the years I have represented the Accused in some of Australia’s most sensational cases.
